Celebrating diversity and internationalism

Building on the work that New Writing North and the School of English have already achieved as promoters of international literature, the Northern Writers’ Centre will attract writers from around the world for fellowships, readings and residencies and to engage in educational projects with young people and schools.

The Centre will create connections between writers around the world and will present writers from many different cultures to North East audiences as part of a programme of international festivals and events.

The Centre will also instigate contemporary translation projects in collaboration with writers and publishers, extending the work that New Writing North and the School of English have already done in this area.

New Writing North will work to develop its role as a national promoter of international literature, building on its recent UK tours of Russian and Bulgarian writers in order to ensure that work created for the Centre also benefits audiences across the UK.
