The Northern Writers’ Centre will create a venue for the enjoyment and appreciation of writing and literature for all the communities of the North East and for visitors to the region. Located in the very heart of Newcastle, it is easy to reach by public transport and will be designed to be accessible to everyone.
Audiences will have access to a year-round programme of talks, readings, debates, lectures and performances by nationally- and internationally-renowned authors. This broad range of events, including book launches and festivals, will take place in the Centre’s specially designed literature performance space.
The Centre will make a substantial and diverse contribution to the creative development of the North East, offering workshops, courses, seminars, reading groups and reading support programmes.
The Centre will run a large-scale series of writing workshops for children and young people as well as events to develop their reading and literacy skills, both at the Centre and in venues and schools across the region.
