The Northern Writers’ Centre will offer ‘out of school’ opportunities for young people to attend creative writing workshops and the chance to take part in special events such as magazine and book publishing projects and film and theatre making.
The Centre will be home to an events programme featuring young people’s authors and reading development projects, fostering a love of reading in young people and engaging them in discussions about books.
Schools will be able to bring their pupils to the Centre for special creative writing days where children will meet and work with authors and begin projects that are then developed back in the classroom.
An original programme of workshops and courses for teachers will develop the understanding and use of creative writing across the curriculum and allow teachers to build their skills and experience.
The Centre will provide work experience opportunities for teenagers and offer young people the chance to volunteer across a range of activities.
